Summary

The planning system is one of the most important and effective tools for environmental protection that we have. There are sound social, economic and environmental reasons for minimising the rate at which our urban areas spread out into the countryside.

We can have decent, high quality housing in towns and cities, while continuing to protect our countryside - one of our greatest assets
